Richard started his boxing career at the University of Washington Boxing Club, where he became the club's first Western Regional champion and All-American. During his three years at the University of Washington, he earned three Western Regional Championships, three All-American honors, a 2015 National Championship, and the 2015 and 2016 Golden Gloves 178-pound championships. He earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition from the University of Washington in 2015. Richard qualified for and participated in the Rio 2016 Olympic team trials. He began his professional career in September 2016 and is now 10-0.

While Richard relocated to California in December 2018, he remains an active member of the Seattle Boxing Gym family as a fighter and visiting coach.
